Ante Šarić is a well-known Grandmaster who has been consistently ranked among the Croatian top players for more than a decade.
From his youth Ante announced his great potential by becoming a four-time Croatian Junior Champion. He soon confirmed these titles were more than a ‘fluke’ by achieving his IM title at the age of 19 and his GM title at the age of 22.
Ever since he has regularly participated in top Croatian tournaments with considerable success. He is the 5-time team Croatian champion, Croatian individual vice-champion (in 2015) and winner of strong classical Open tournaments in Bibinje, Rijeka, Hum at Sutla, Zagreb, Pula, as well as International rapid and blitz tournaments Peter Peko Memorial (2007) and Mijo Udovičić Memorial (2016).
He has participated 10 times as a member of the Croatian National team at the Mitropa Cup where he scored 4 team gold medals and 3 individual gold medals for the best board. He is currently (December 2019) ranked 6th on the Croatian rating list and he had crossed the 2600 rating barrier in the past (January 2016).
Apart from chess, Ante is a full-time husband and a father of two girls. When he is not playing chess or providing chess lessons, he likes to play and watch football and root for his favourite football club, Hajduk Split.
Ante decided to join the Croatia Bulldogs at the invitation of the team manager Vjekoslav Nemec, although a “preparatory talk” by Jadranko Plenča also played an important role. We are very happy to have a leading Croatian Grandmaster in our team and we hope Ante will have a lot of success in the future.
Both in the Pro Chess League and in his personal and professional life.
