I’m not that big a fan of Kasparov’s books. First, his strength as a player is that he’s endlessly calculating and his games can be confusing, tough for the opponent but also the onlooker. His books also tend towards too much calculation and one notes if we wanted variations, just putting the game in the computer program yields more info.

Can we add to the list following books?
The Middlegame book 1 and 2 by Euwe and Cramer.
Lasker’s Manual of Chess by Emanuel Lasker.
Chess Fundamentals by Capablanca.
New York 1924 by Alkhine.

Possibly yes, but I have really put a lot of Kasparov’s work on the list. I think the books mentioned in this post are his best creative work.

Hi Mark,
Thank you for your insight. I am familiar with the book Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess, I have even written about it in another post, but I think we can be pretty positive Fischer had nothing to do with the writing process, but merely lend his name for PR purposes.
As for “The Chess Games of Bobby Fischer”, I have never heard about them. I would like to thank you for pointing that out.
Cheers
Vjekoslav
