Chess study 7 – Mihail Kroitor study in Chess Studies Chess Training on February 5, 2017 January 29, 2019 Share Facebook Twitter Pinterest Email CHESS STUDY 7 MIHAIL KROITOR STUDY In front of you is an endgame composition by Mihail Kroitor, from the year 2007: [White "Mikhail Kroitor Study"] [Black "White to play and win"] [Result "1-0"] [FEN "5k2/8/3p2K1/P2R1Np1/8/6p1/4p3/8 w - - 0 1"] {The main motive behind this study is the epaulette mate. First moves are kinda obvious:} 1 Rb5 e1Q 2 Rb8+ Qe8+ 3 Rxe8+ Kxe8 {Still, it is not clear how White should win. But there is a very nice tactical way.} 4 a6!! {Going for the queen and letting the g-pawn queen.} 4... g2 5 a7 g1Q 6 a8Q+ Kd7 7 Qb7+ Ke6 {And now comes the whole point of the study.} 8 Nd4+!!! {An amazing solution. Black has only two possible moves:} 8... Qxd4 (8... Ke5 9 Nf3+ {wins the queen}) 9 Qf7+ Ke5 10 Qf5 { and we have arrived to the afore-mentioned epaulette mate. Very nice.} your web browser and/or your host do not support iframes as required to display the chessboard; alternatively your wordpress theme might suppress the html iframe tag from articles or excerpts Chess studies Previous Post← Chess tactics 25 Chess tactics 25 Next PostChess tactics 26 → Chess tactics 26 You May Also Like Chess Studies Chess Training Chess study 36 – Alois Wotawa View Post Chess Studies Chess Training Learn Chess Chess study 31 – Genrikh Kasparyan View Post Chess Studies Chess Training Chess study 21 – Siegbert Tarrasch study View Post
